🦍 Gino: The Gorilla Who Stole Hearts

On World Gorilla Day, we celebrate the life of Gino, a wise silverback gorilla who recently passed away at 44.

Gino arrived at Disney’s Animal Kingdom back in 1997 and quickly became a park legend. Gentle, playful, and full of character, he charmed guests and caretakers alike — sometimes even striking poses or showing off with a classic chest-beat.

But he was more than just a star. Gino was a devoted dad to 14 offspring, helped advance gorilla veterinary care, and inspired new ways to protect animals. In his honor, Disney is continuing strong support for gorilla conservation in the wild.

🏞️ Why You’ve GOT to Visit Animal Kingdom

When you walk the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail in the Africa section of the park, you’re following in Gino’s footsteps.

  • The trail is self-guided — no lines, no rush — with gorillas, hippos, exotic birds, and more.
  • Go early in the morning or later in the day when the animals are most active.
  • Pause for a moment — these animals often observe you as much as you observe them!

So on your next trip to Animal Kingdom, make sure to swing by Gorilla Falls. Take a moment to think of Gino, and maybe you’ll feel a little of the gorilla magic he left behind. 🐾✨
